Actress Jane Pope was born and raised in the Covent Garden area of London, and began acting as a child. She joined Garrick's Company at the Drury Lane theatre, succeeding her friend, the celebrated Kitty Clive, in character roles, chiefly in low comedy. Aside from a brief contract dispute, she remained with Garrick's company throughout her long career, and made a successful transition from youthful parts to mature roles.
